Bitso Card Has Shut Down: What to Switch To

Bitso Card officially ceased operations and was discontinued on 2025-05-26. Bitso launched physical and digital cards in Mexico on 2023-03-02 with Mastercard, operated by Nvio Pagos México, directly spending Mexican Peso (MXN) balances with zero annual fees and up to 1%–3% Bitcoin (BTC) cashback. Card services were discontinued on 2025-05-26; official FAQ confirms Bitso exchange accounts remain unaffected with no direct replacement card; historical statements must be accessed via nvio.mx. Furthermore, Bitso exited direct Brazilian retail operations as of 2026-10-30, migrating users to Mercado Bitcoin.

What to do next

Deadlines the issuer has given

The issuer has not published a deadline that is still in effect.

This site’s general checklist

The following is not an instruction from the issuer. It is this site’s general advice for any card being retired.

  1. Stop topping up the card or its account, so the balance does not sit with a party that has stopped operating.
  2. Move the balance back to a wallet or account you control before the service ends; the withdrawal route usually closes before the card itself does.
  3. Go through every recurring charge tied to this card, especially AI and streaming subscriptions, and move them to the new card before cancelling the old one.
  4. Keep the shutdown notice, withdrawal records and ticket numbers as evidence for any later claim or appeal.
  5. Pick a backup card on a different network or from a different issuer, so a single channel failure does not take both down at once.
